For Sale on You Tube (Video)

For years, home buyers have been spending hours Sunday mornings browsing the classified ads looking at dream homes. Over the past decade, more and more listings have become available online, allowing us to see listings from all over the world.

But a picture is worth a thousand words. A few years ago, Sandlapper Real Estate Group noticed the growing popularity of photo tours and decided to take it one step further. They sought out a production company to make high quality videos of their must unique and expensive properties to allow perspective buyers, who may not live in the area, access to the inside and outside of the homes. The push was a success, but Steve DeGuzman of Sandlapper Real Estate Group wanted to make sure that more people would see these videos and come to their website.

In 2006, Google bought the video sharing website YouTube. The website had seen explosive growth in popularity as it allows anyone to post video for free. A user can log on to the website and easily search for almost any kind of video from old TV shows to backyard wrestling. DeGuzman realized that with the huge popularity of YouTube, he could reach a whole new audience with his sales videos. The number of local real estate listings on YouTube is growing every day.

But he is not alone. Real estate agents across the country are beginning to use the website to take users inside homes. Digital video cameras and editing software are becoming common in many households. Amateur filmmakers are now producing higher quality videos than ever.

The future of real estate will likely involve real estate agents with handheld cameras walking through houses as they describe the best qualities of a home. A few keystrokes and the tour will be available to anyone in the world. Just one more business changed forever by the web.
